Senior Investment Associate (Vietnam)
Sarona Asset Management (“Sarona”) is seeking a highly motivated Senior Investment Associate to join Sarona team in Vietnam. The role will be split between supporting Australia Development Investment (ADI) investments and contributing to the Challenge Fund (CF). The Senior Investment Associate will work closely with investment professionals, fund managers, ecosystem stakeholders, and technical assistance providers to drive both investment and grant-related initiatives.
Responsibilities
1. Grant Program Support to Advancing Growth, Innovation, and Leadership for Enterprises (AGILE) Challenge Fund (50%)
• Coordination with stakeholders: Support communication and coordination efforts with CF stakeholders, including investors, gender and climate experts, and local ecosystem players.
• Investor & Enterprise Engagement: Help identify and liaise with investors interested in funding early-stage climate enterprises (CEs) in Vietnam.
• Screening & Due Diligence Support: Assist in reviewing potential grant recipients, ensuring alignment with AGILE objectives (climate resilience, gender inclusion, and marginalized community support).
• Impact Tracking & Reporting: Contribute to the development of tracking mechanisms to measure the effectiveness of grant funding in mobilizing private capital, under the leadership of the Impact team at Sarona.
• Research & Data Management: Maintain databases of investors, pipeline companies, and grant recipients, leveraging best practices from Sarona’s existing processes and partnerships.
• Process Improvement: Work with key stakeholders to refine selection processes, screening tools, and reporting frameworks for the CF.
• Support in project management to WUSC: Support WUSC in grant reporting obligations to the donor, including related to the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework of AGILE.
2. Impact Investments – Australia Development Investment (ADI) and other climate finance products (50%)
• Pipeline Development & Due Diligence: Assist in sourcing, screening, and analysing potential investment opportunities, with a focus on gender-lens and climate finance.
• Investment Analysis: Review investment pitch decks, track record, and business models of prospective investees.
• Investment Memos & Reporting: Contribute to drafting investment memos and periodic investor reports.
• Portfolio Monitoring: Support ongoing monitoring of ADI investments, track performance indicators, and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Market Research: Conduct research on emerging trends, investment opportunities, and ecosystem developments in Vietnam and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
• Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement: Help organize and participate in meetings with fund managers, co-investors, and industry stakeholders.
• Business development: Support the Sarona executive in developing and launching products focused on climate funds in the Asia-Pacific region.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will be:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in investment analysis, finance, impact investing, or development finance, preferably within Vietnam’s impact investing, venture capital, or private equity ecosystem.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess investment opportunities and interpret financial data.
• Excellent communication skills in both English and Vietnamese (written and verbal).
• Proactive, service-oriented, and energetic team player with strong interpersonal skills to engage with investors, grant recipients, and government bodies.
• Self-starter and problem solver with exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Resilient and adaptable, maintaining a positive attitude even in high-pressure situations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
• Experience or strong interest in gender-lens investing, climate finance, and emerging markets.
